Last week, GIFP welcomed a delegation from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Moldova, led by Ambassador H.E. Almat Aidarbekov. During the visit, the Ambassador discussed with our General Director, Mathias von Tucher, about the port’s infrastructure, logistics conditions and operational activities.
GIFP has a long-standing and successful collaboration with Kazakh business partners, particularly with Rompetrol owned by KazMunayGas JSC, Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas operator and one of the largest importers of fuel in the Republic of Moldova. In addition, the Kazakh company Temirzhol Zhondeu has been importing large quantities of rails via GIFP for the rehabilitation of the southern railway corridor Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulești, totalling 233 km in length and co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
In the context of a growing interest from business communities in both countries in establishing commercial ties, Ambassador Aidarbekov emphasised the significance of GIFP as a potential logistics hub within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) respectively the “Middle Corridor”, a project in which Kazakhstan is playing a leading role. Anticipating a potentially stronger collaboration with GIFP, the Kazakh Ambassador noted that the port could serve as an additional route for delivering Kazakhstani products to European Union markets.
