Danube Logistics, general investor and operator of Giurgiulești International Free Port, has obtained the EN ISO 50001:2018 certification on 25th June, 2025. The certification, issued by SRAC and IQNet, was formally handed over yesterday by Mihail Căpățână, Commercial Director of SRAC, to Mathias von Tucher, General Director of Danube Logistics SRL, at the company’s office in Chișinău.
The ISO 50001 certification, granted by SRAC and IQNet, recognizes our efforts to improve energy management and increase energy efficiency in our operations. SRAC (Romanian Association for Quality Assurance) is a reputable accreditation body recognized internationally for certifying organizations across various sectors, and IQNet (International Certification Network) is a global network of leading certification bodies, renowned for certifying management systems worldwide. The accreditation by both bodies ensures that our certification meets the highest international standards of quality and reliability.
Our organization has been proactively implementing an EnMS since 2016, demonstrating our long-term commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. In consequence, we have been able to systematize monitoring and to control energy consumption, to identify the main energy consumers, and to develop measures to optimize and to decrease energy use. Concrete examples of improvements include the switch from traditional lighting technology in buildings and on the port territory to LED technology and the gradual substitution of fuel-powered cargo handling equipment with electrical-powered equipment. The ISO 50001 certification helps us to pursue a structured approach to integrate energy efficiency in our business processes, to increase the awareness of our employees and to continue to optimize our energy consumption.
ISO 50001 is an international standard that provides organizations with a structured framework to establish, implement, maintain, and improve an Energy Management System (EnMS). Since its introduction in 2011 and the updated version EN ISO 50001:2018 in 2018, this standard helps organizations systematically monitor, control, and optimize their energy use, leading to significant improvements in energy performance, cost savings, and environmental impact.
Danube Logistics remains committed to implementing best practices that benefit our clients, partners, and the community, ensuring a greener and more efficient future for Giurgiulesti International Free Port.
