During 2010 Giurgiulesti International Free Port transhipped 371,211 metric tons of cargo, almost 5-times more than in 2009. 59% of the transhipped cargo was grain, 23% gravel and 16% oil products. Thomas Moser the chairman of ICS Danube Logistics SRL – the general investor and operator of Giurgiulesti International Free Port – stated: “the final 2010 transhipment volumes exceeded our expectations and with the start of the operation of the general cargo and container terminal in spring, we expect that the transhipment volumes will continue to increase this year. ”
Apart from the logistics operations Giurgiulesti International Free Port is actively engaged in the marketing of its industrial zone to national and international investors. Thomas Moser stated in this regard: “ I am confident that we will be able to complete our negotiations with a number of investors who plan to establish major manufacturing facilities within the port in 2011. Their arrival will create a substantial number of jobs that will benefit the entire region.”
Giurgiulesti International Free Port is operated by ICS Danube Logistics SRL, a company owned by the Dutch company EASEUR Holding BV (80%) and by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ( 20%).
