On January 16th Danube Logistics Estonian flagged vessel MV Kalana will undertake its first voyage for the weekly transportation of containers and general cargo between Giurgiulesti and Istanbul.
The 3,274 dwt vessel can load up to 266 empty or 189 full 20 ft containers. Apart from containers the vessel can also carry other types of cargo such as cargo in bags, on pallets, in boxes, various steel products, equipment or vehicles.
Thomas Moser, the Chairman of Danube Logistics SRL, stated: “Our weekly service will significantly reduce the transportation costs for Moldovan companies trading with Turkey and the rest of the world. Apart from containers the vessel can transport a broad range of general cargo at very competitive prices. We are confident that the new service will be successful.”
Danube Logistics’ first client for its weekly service is the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the second largest container shipping line in the world. During its first call on Giurgiulesti International Free Port the vessel MV Kalana discharged a total of 141 containers for MSC. On Monday, 16th of January, the ship has sailed to Istanbul with 22 MSC containers carrying Moldovan grain, which will be ultimately delivered by MSC to Taiwan.
ICS Danube Logistics SRL is the general investor and operator of Giurgiulesti International Free Port (GIFP) as well as the operator of the newly established weekly transportation service for containers and general cargo between Giurgiulesti and Istanbul.
