Chisinau, August 22 (INFOTAG). On September 5, Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat will visit the Giurgiulesti port [on the Danube River in southern Moldova] that has the status of a free enterprise zone so as to personally study its problems on the site. Such accord was reached at the meeting Filat had with the administration of the Danube Logistics company — the general investor in the port and its operator.
According to the governmental press service, the parties discussed measures that should simplify the port activities and help its development, which would enhance exports from Moldova.
Thomas Mozer, the Danube Logistics Executive Director, said that the company has already invested over 65 million US dollars in the port development. This upcoming autumn, construction will be completed of a freight and container terminal, which will substantially increase the port’s freight turnover capacity.
In his words, to improve the port operation, it is necessary to improve the relevant legal frame and the existing practice of freight control on the border, to develop railroad transportation from Giurgiulesti, and to repair the M3 highway.
The Prime Minister assured that the Chisinau-Giurgiulesti highway repair shall be completed by year 2013.
He said, «We are going to diversify our exports, and we hope to use the Giurgiulesti port for exporting not only oil products and grain, but also other products, such as e.g. meat».
Vladimir Filat ordered to set up a working group consisting of the representatives of customs organs to improve the existing customs legal frame.
