On 25 November 2011 Giurgiulesti International Free Port started for the first time to load a tanker vessel with Moldovan sunflower oil. The vessel is being loaded at ICS Danube Logistics SRL’s liquid bulk cargo berth, which is connected via a newly constructed pipeline to the TransOil Group’s recently completed vegetable oil storage facilities located within the business park of Giurgiulesti International Free Port. In total 3,000 mt of sunflower oil will be exported with the first vessel by TransOil to Italy. The loading of the vessel is expected to take 36 hours.
Thomas Moser, the Chairman of ICS Danube Logistics SRL, stated on the occasion: “The new vegetable oil facilities at Giurgiulesti International Free Port, will ensure the efficient export of Moldovan vegetable oil to world markets. With the start of the operation of the vegetable oil terminal and the upcoming opening of the container and general cargo terminal, Giurgiulesti International Free Port is rapidly developing into Moldova’s leading logistics centre.”
Vaja Jashi, the Chairman of the TransOil Group added: “In 2012 we expect to export more than 80,000 metric tons of vegetable oil via Giurgiulesti International Free Port.”
